Why we started, in her own words.
A Note from Our Founder
The idea for The Snack Shop began with something I saw too often at our local markets.
Fresh crops that farmers had worked hard to grow would sit unsold, lose their freshness and eventually go to waste. In Liberia, post harvest losses for cassava have been estimated as high as 25 percent.
I began to wonder, what if we could capture more of that value before it was lost? That question became the inspiration behind The Snack Shop.
I saw an opportunity to transform locally grown crops into convenient, thoughtfully packaged foods with a longer journey from farm to consumer. We started with cassava, creating products like our Kala Mix and Gari range that bring familiar African foods into modern lifestyles.
"But our vision goes beyond cassava and beyond snacks."
We believe some of Africa's greatest opportunities are already growing from our soil. By transforming more of what we grow, we can reduce post harvest losses, create stronger markets for farmers, support local manufacturing and build African food brands with the potential to reach consumers around the world.
My vision is simple. I want to see crops grown in Liberia transformed into products that travel far beyond where they were harvested, proudly carrying the words: Made in Liberia.
Because what we grow should not go to waste. It should create value. It should create opportunity. It should go further.
The Journey So Far
A home kitchen, a hand-mixed batch
It began in a home kitchen with cassava sourced from nearby farms, mixed by hand and packed a few pouches at a time. There was no factory, no big plan — just a stubborn belief that Kala and Gari deserved better packaging and a place on a real shelf.
